The good old favorite. I have made so many different versions of these over my time.
The beautiful thing I love about dumplings, is that they are simple to make for a dessert or they can finish a stew on a campfire just fine and dandy. For Dumplings out camping all you need is S/R flour and liquid and yes this can be a tin of beer if it's going on a red meat stew, Fo' Shizzle.
To make a batch, add enough liquid to make it combine and a little on the wetter stage, if its on a campfire add the dumplings on top of the stew in the last hour.
You can use the same process and make a big dumpling/scone and serve with golden syrup and butter. Delicious.
The good thing about Dumplings is the kids can get involved and roll and roll and they love it. If they want to eat, get them involved haha. Seriously though, the more time kids or little people spend in the kitchen the better their skills in confidence and resilience become.
So easy to make and get the kids in the kitchen and roll away.
Dumplings:
- 225 gm S/R flour
- 30gm butter
- 50ml Milk
- 2 eggs
Rub the butter into the flour and then add the rest of the ingredients. Roll into balls.
Sauce:
- 185gm soft light brown sugar
- 350gm Golden Syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups of water
Bring the sauce to boil, turn down to a simmer point, and add the dumplings (CAREFULLY WITH A SLOTTED SPOON), cover, and cook for 15 minutes. Serve with ice cream or cream and eat together :)
